Mezzanine & Office Fit Out, Surrey

Oliver Bonas is a growing household goods retailer with high street outlets and a fast developing internet sales division. It is for this reason that they came to DMA to create additional space for the storage of goods and to increase their office accommodation at their Chessington head office.

Working closely with their facilities manager, DMA developed a plan to construct an 800 sq. m. mezzanine floor primarily for storage and with additional office and meeting room accommodation both above and below the new mezzanine floor.

Construction of the mezzanine floor presented some engineering challenges when it was discovered that part of the warehouse floor was built on a raft. Using our expertise and experience gathered over the years, we have been able to meet this challenge with a design that satisfied building regulations.

The new floor abutted an existing fire rated internal wall and the new office facilities were built alongside this wall. New fire doors were inserted in this wall to access the new offices.

The project consisted of the following services:

• Design, manufacture, and installation of the mezzanine floor
• Fire rating the Mezzanine Floor
• Design and construction of the office & meeting rooms
• Installation of all the lighting and power supplies
• Carpeting and decorations throughout
• Installation of HVAC into the offices & meeting rooms
• Managing the building control approvals on behalf of Oliver Bonas

During the construction phase, the warehouse was working at what one would describe as beyond full capacity and as soon as the mezzanine floor was completed, it was quickly filled to relieve pressure on the operations. It was a challenge both to DMA and to the client to construct this much-needed additional space at a time of peak warehouse stockholding but DMA worked closely with Oliver Bonas to minimise disruption.
