DMA was pleased to be appointed as the main contractor by Flux Freestyle Ltd to refurbish and fit out their first trampoline centre in a retail park in the heart of Ipswich.
The site was approximately 9500 sq. ft. on the first floor of an iconic building. It was previously used as a gym but had been empty for a few years. Whilst most of the gym equipment had been removed, some infrastructure such as showers, tanning salons, whirlpool baths, changing rooms and exercise areas remained.
The first task was to completely clear the area to a base build. As there is no lift in the building, all the materials that had been stripped out had to be manually taken down a staircase. This alone took five weeks. Other items such as a water treatment plant, a tank along with all electrical circuitry, an alarm system, and an existing air conditioning system also had to be removed. In all, 165 tons of materials were disposed of into skips much of which was carefully sorted for recycling.
As soon as all the areas were cleared, refurbishment and installation of the new equipment began. The first task was to repair and decorate all the external walls and to install the first fix electrics. The construction of a mezzanine floor followed. As the mezzanine floor is designed to be used as a viewing platform, fire protection was added. Toilets and office areas were also built, to which were added concealed paneling, second fix sanitary ware, and flooring throughout. Designer lighting, a feature of the client’s branding, was added. Then it was a big push to finish the build with fire systems, intruder alarm systems, and sound systems before the trampolines were put in situ.
As principal contractor under CDM regulations, DMA managed all aspects of the build and despite a compressed time schedule and many challenges along the way, the project was completed on time for the grand opening.
