DMA was appointed by Savino Del Bene to design and construct a Mezzanine Floor to accommodate longspan shelving and hanging garment storage at their warehouse at Feltham, near London Heathrow airport. The Mezzanine Floor space, designed to significantly increase the existing warehouse floor area, serves as a dedicated area for a well-known global fashion retailer. In addition, the Client requested DMA to dismantle the existing pallet racking from the designated Mezzanine Floor area and relocate it to the remaining space in the warehouse, as well as ordering additional racking for expanding storage requirements.
The Client site comprises of 1026m² of warehouse space and 175m² of office space spread over two floors. The new Mezzanine Floor, with fire protection to the underside, occupies 470m² of the warehouse area with standard Storax SP80 APR Pallet Racking occupying the remainder.
Storax SP50 Longspan shelving was used under the Mezzanine Floor area for assorted boxed items, to provide flexibility for future customers. The same Longspan shelving was used on the first floor along with hanging garment storage accessed by a powered garment conveyor.
Since the warehouse is blessed with a 10m headroom, DMA recommended the Client to future-proof the design to allow for future expansion. As a result, the construction of the Mezzanine Floor allows for a second tier to be added should the need arise.
The project had to meet a challenging completion date mandated by the end-user, and as usual, DMA stood up to the challenge and delivered the project on time and within budget.
We were extremely happy with the flexibility DMA showed when erecting our mezzanine floor. The floor needed to be installed within a tight deadline, but the organisation and pro-activeness shown from all of DMA’s contractors meant the deadline was achieved.
